Description
A very fine Rococo-Louis XV chimnepiece made out of the highly valued Brèche Violet marble. The double moulded shelf rests above a finely carved and panelled frieze, centered with a beautiful cartouche, flanked by foliate scrollwork with trailing flowers. This motif is echoed on the scrolling endblocks ànd the canted console jambs. French, ca.1860. Brèche Violet marble: A stunning natural stone, characterised by it's striking violet and soft hooveringgrey and white veining. It was highly prized in the 18th and 19th century. This distinctive marble brougth opulence, luxury and elegance to interior-spaces and architectural elements.
